The Clinical Campus of I.M. Sechenov First MSMU was founded in 1987 and is recognized as one of the world’s best. It is not only an inimitable architectural center and a famous historical landmark, but also a unique center where future doctors study, physicians continue medical education, scientists carry out research, the most difficult patients receive specialized high-tech medical care.
Establishment of the Clinical Campus is a remarkable milestone of the Russian medicine and medical education. At the edge of the 19th century for the purpose of the University hospitals construction the State Duma allotted to the University a territory of 40 000 sq. fathom (about 85344 sq. m.) on Devichye Pole.
First hospitals (Psychiatry, and Obstetrics and Gynecology) were built from merchants’ donations. Later on within five next years the University obtained magnificent buildings of thirteen hospitals and two institutes.
For more than a century already the Clinical Campus on Devichye Pole has been the basis for research and education, as well as a multidisciplinary center of high quality medical care.
Today the Clinical Center comprises 19 world-known diversified University hospitals (over 3,000 beds), as well as the Clinical Diagnostic Center, and the Center of Restorative Medicine and Rehabilitation. Medical units of the University are able to provide service to about 50,000 inpatients and over 300,000 outpatients annually.
Clinical Simulation Center
The Clinical Simulation Center of I.M. Sechenov First MSMU differs from similar facilities in terms of wider range of contingent (from citizens to qualified physicians), wider areas of training (general medicine, preventive medicine, internal diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology and reanimatology, pediatrics, radiology, cardiology, urology, healthcare management, nursery, basics of the first aid, etc.), as well as the system approach to the evaluation of results.

During simulation studies specific training equipment and tools allow students to deliberately perform actions/operations in an environment modelling a real-world situation.
The main idea of such studies is based on the learning pyramid by NTL Institute (Bethel, Maine) which states that learners retain approximately 90% of what they learn when they teach someone else/use immediately.
The Center totally counts about 50 educational modes of different specialization and duration. Some modes are a part of an obligatory program of simulative education in specific areas for interns and residents. Every single specialist has an opportunity of training within an individual mode.
Tasks performance is controlled by experts and computer programs. The team works are recorded for the purpose of further discussion.

Central Scientific Medical Library
The Central Scientific Medical Library of I.M. Sechenov First MSMU dates back to 1919 when the first small sets of books were received. Over the years the Library has evolved into the one of the biggest European centers of scientific medical data.
Nowadays the Library has at its disposal a unique collection of scientific publications in medicine and healthcare and one of the Russia’s best Centers of Library Information Technologies Development and Introduction.
The Library is a member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and takes part in the international exchange of library materials.
The Library numbers more than 3 million items (more than 1,5 million titles) of Russian and foreign medical books and journals, including scientific works, translations, theses, abstracts, deposit manuscripts, etc.
Annually the Library is visited by up to 120,000 specialists from Russia, CIS and far-abroad countries at whose disposal there are 5000 m2 of archives, comfortable reading rooms with over 400 places and modern IT service for users. Annual circulation exceeds 400,000.
Since 1988 the Library has been maintaining the database of medicine and healthcare “Russian Medicine” that comprises over 80% of all published and unpublished materials in the field.
Being the part of the country’s largest education and clinical center – I.M. Sechenov First MSMU – the Library also carries out research, gives practical help to other libraries, and provides education for medical libraries staff.
