The Department of Advanced Medical Doctors in Moscow was organized in 1980 by the Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Irina Stepanovna Sidorova at the Central Order of Lenin Institute for Advanced Medical Studies. The first cadets at the department began training on September 1, 1982. From January 2, 1989, the Faculty of Advanced Training for Doctors of COLIUV (FUV) was transferred to the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov. From 2009 to 2013, the department was headed by Doctor of Medicine, Professor Makarov Igor Olegovich.

From 2014 to the present, the head of the department is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sergey Aleksandrovich Levakov.

The department conducts advanced training programs with subsequent certification of “Obstetrics and Gynecology” for obstetricians and gynecologists, advanced training programs in the framework of Continuing Medical Education on the most topical issues of obstetrics and gynecology with the subsequent issuance of certificates.
The discipline “Obstetrics and Gynecology” is taught annually to students of the 5th, 6th and 7th courses of the medical faculty, 4th year of the dental faculty, teaching the discipline “Reproductive health of women” for the 3rd and 6th year students of the medical faculty. The department organized a student scientific circle for students of 5 and 6 courses, which is headed by Professor Budanov Pavel Valerievich.
