The Department of Occupational Medicine MTF was established in 1993 on the basis of the Research Institute of Occupational Medicine of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The integration of the department and the research institute allows introducing into the system of postgraduate and additional professional education the results of the latest scientific achievements obtained in Russia and abroad, which ensures continuity in the “science-education-practice” system.
The head of the department is Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, winner of the Government of the Russian Federation Prize, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Fedotovich Izmerov.
The department carries out the teaching of occupational medicine – an integrated field of preventive and curative medicine, the purpose of which is to manage the state of human health, and the subject is the scientific substantiation and practical implementation of the means and methods of its preservation and strengthening.
The department organizes and carries out educational, teaching and methodical, scientific and therapeutic activities with the aim of training, retraining and advanced training of specialists and scientific and pedagogical personnel in the specialties “Occupational Hygiene”, “Profpathology”, “Hygiene and Sanitation”, interns in the specialty “Clinical laboratory diagnostics “on the basis of the unity of educational, scientific, medical and educational work through the implementation of educational programs of higher vocational, postgraduate vocational education, as well as educational programs of additional professional education.
The main task of the department is to prepare highly qualified personnel with deep theoretical and practical knowledge, a high level of professionalism and competence in their chosen specialty or area. Solving this problem, the department conducts training sessions in the form of full-time, part-time and distance learning.
The department trains interns, graduate students, residents, specialists of the Rospotrebnadzor services, general practitioners, occupational physicians, doctors of various specialties who take part in conducting preliminary and periodic occupational medical examinations, engineering and technical personnel of occupational health and safety equipment of enterprises and organizations, scientific employees of scientific research institutes and teachers of universities, nursing staff.
Such an innovative direction of development of postgraduate education as distance learning, including webinars, and the credit system of credit units of the total academic load (ECTS) are actively being introduced into the educational process. In order to provide students with additional in-depth knowledge and skills in certain areas of occupational medicine, elective courses are introduced.
