The department was organized in 2000 on the basis of the course of Psychoneurology at the Department of Nervous Diseases FPPO.
Head of the Department – Anatoly Boleslavovich Smulevich, Academician of the RAMS, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department for the Study of Border Mental Pathology and Psychosomatic Disorders, Head of the Interclinical Psychosomatic Department of the Clinical Center of the First Moscow State Medical University. THEM. Sechenov, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (one of the leading scientists and clinicians of world renown in the field of psychiatry and psychosomatics).
The staff of the department is involved in the educational process, the preparation of teaching materials, manuals and manuals for doctors.
Classes are held at the bases of large Moscow hospitals by an experienced teaching staff of the department (doctors and candidates of medical sciences). Most lectures are accompanied by clinical demonstrations of patients. At lectures, seminars and clinical discussions, doctors familiarize themselves with the clinic, diagnosis, the course of mental disorders (including mental disorders in the general medical network); with the latest achievements in the field of therapy and organization of psychiatric care. Special attention is paid to the skills of qualified clinical analysis. Methodological support meets modern requirements, including teaching and methodological manuals developed at the department, an extensive bank of modern illustrative materials, situational tasks and test control questions.
The staff of the department conducts active scientific and organizational activities: research on current topics of psychiatry and psychosomatics, publications, participation in psychiatric congresses and conferences. Clinical concepts of borderline and psychosomatic disorders have been developed, contributing to the improvement of systematics, diagnostics, therapy and rehabilitation of a huge contingent of patients. The basic principles of treatment of the studied pathology have been developed; techniques and algorithms of psychopharmacology and psychotherapy are presented in accordance with the clinical typology of borderline mental and psychosomatic disorders. In the framework of introducing the principles of the developed “integrated medicine” model into practice of treatment-and-prophylactic institutions, educational programs were created and implemented, intended not only for psychiatrists, but also for doctors of general medical specialties. Medical and social efficiency of the department is a consistent and comprehensive solution to the actual problems of the integration of psychiatry and general medicine; advanced training of doctors; providing qualified medical care to a huge contingent of psychosomatic patients in the general medical network, improving the quality of life of these patients and significantly reducing the economic costs of healthcare.
As part of the study of psychosomatic disorders, a wide contingent of patients with
– cardiology
– pulmonary
– endocrinological
– gastroenterological
– dermatological and other pathologies
– complex epidemiological and clinical study of somatized neurotic disorders (organ neuroses)
The department has a student scientific circle with the possibility of admission of its active students in clinical residency, as well as a competitive selection in full-time and part-time correspondence graduate school.
Employees of the department conduct extensive medical advisory work at clinical sites. Due to the high need for improvement of practitioners in the field of psychosomatics, at the request of the Moscow Health Committee, the department staff developed and implemented a one-day educational program “Anxiety-depressive disorders in general medical practice”.
The practical impact is to significantly improve the quality of specialized care for this widely spread contingent of patients.
