The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology №2 at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University has a rich history of providing a comprehensive educational, methodical, medical, and research program for students, interns, clinical interns, and graduate students.

The department offers the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology to students of 4th, 5th, and 6th courses of the medical faculty, foreign students, 4-year students of the dental faculty, and the faculty of “medicine of the future.” The department follows a standard work program and a standard curriculum approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The department has a long-standing legacy of being led by renowned professors who have made significant contributions to the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1930-1952, Professor Efim Ilich Kvetore, the founder of Russian endocrinological gynecology and the founder of an independent school, served as the first head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Medical and Preventive faculty.

Over the years, the department has expanded its scientific directions to include priority problems such as prevention of thromboembolic complications in pregnant women, prevention of massive coagulopathic bleeding, antithrombotic therapy, hormone replacement therapy and hormonal contraception, prenatal diagnosis, and principles of safe management of pregnancy and childbirth in patients with genetically determined forms of hemorrhagic diathesis.

In recent years, the department has been studying the molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of genetically determined forms of thrombophilia and the role of hereditary thrombophilia and APS in the development of pregnancy complications. The department has published over 750 scientific papers and defended 140 candidates and 24 doctoral theses on these issues.
