The Department of Endocrinology was organized on February 19, 1991 at the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of Doctors of the Moscow Medical Academy. I.M. Sechenov, since 2017 the department has been working as a part of the medical faculty of Sechenov University and participates in the training of specialists in the higher education system, and also trains specialists in clinical internship and postgraduate studies, continuing to work on additional professional education
The department has extensive experience in the system of postgraduate training of endocrinologists and doctors of other medical specialties, has sufficient methodological support for the quality of all forms of additional and continuous professional education of endocrinologists. In recent years, one of the areas of educational and methodical work is the development and implementation of training using distance learning technologies. The department also conducts training of specialists in the system of higher professional education through clinical residency and graduate school. On average, the department receives 140 supplementary and continuing professional education programs for 140 physicians and endocrinologists, as well as 12 resident doctors at the department. Employees of the department act as organizers of scientific and practical conferences on topical issues of thyroidology and diabetology, including as part of the program for the implementation of continuing professional education using credit-point assessment of knowledge. For a number of years, the staff of the department has been engaged in conducting clinical trials of new drugs, the results of which are actively being introduced into practical healthcare.
The founder and head of the department until 2008 was a prominent Russian scientist, a famous endocrinologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor Mikhail Ivanovich Balabolkin.
Currently, since February 2008, the department is headed by a student of MI. Balabolkina, MD, Professor Nina Petunina, a highly qualified teacher and clinician with diverse clinical experience and broad scientific interests, the author of more than 300 scientific publications.
Teaching staff represented by professors N.A. Petunina and L.V. Nedosugovoy, associate professors L.V. Trukhina, M.E. Telnova and assistants E.V.Goncharova, A.L. Terekhova, N.S. Martirosyan, consists of students of the department, who have gone from a clinical intern, a graduate student to a teacher of the department, who has scientific degrees and academic degrees. Three members of the department have diplomas “High School Teacher”. Along with experienced teachers and clinicians, young employees take part in the work of the department – laboratory doctors, graduate students and clinical residents.
