The Department of Hygiene of Children and Adolescents at the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov, the oldest in Russia, was founded in 1926 at the medical faculty of Moscow State University. He has a rich historical experience in the organization of educational and professional activities, both students and graduates in the field of hygiene and child and adolescent health.
The tasks of the department are:
training qualified specialists with higher medical education on the basis of the close connection of the educational process with practice, research on the hygiene and health of children and adolescents;
improvement of the system of university and additional professional education of doctors and specialists, including the use of modern information and communication technologies, electronic resources;
improving the quality management system for the training of students and doctors;
intensification of scientific research in priority areas of hygiene and child and adolescent health, development and improvement of medical personnel training, health promotion for children and adolescents, prevention of the most common diseases of children and adolescents, increasing the level of sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the younger generation and improving the quality of life of children and adolescents ;
popularization of educational, methodological and scientific achievements of the department and theFMSMU named after I.M. Sechenov;
development and enhancement of the pedagogical potential of the FMSMU named after I.M. Sechenov, his scientific schools.
At the department, students of the pediatric faculty are trained in two disciplines “Hygiene” and “Basics of the formation of children’s health”.
The purpose of training is to form the knowledge, skills, and value orientations of future pediatricians necessary for the implementation of preventive work, which is an integral part of the pediatrician’s activities. A qualified assessment of the influence of the external environment and lifestyle on the health and development of the child population, which have a positive and negative impact on the body, allows us to objectively assess the degree of interaction and justify the implementation of specific preventive measures aimed at promoting the health of children and adolescents.
Programs of additional professional education of the department are designed primarily for practitioners seeking to improve their professional level; get prompt and clear explanations on all issues related to changes in legislation; establish new business contacts and relationships with partners and colleagues. In modern conditions, physicians in the hygiene of children and adolescents from the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, specialists from the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Humanities, university professors and research workers are trained in various sections of the hygiene of children and adolescents. To improve the training of specialists in medical specialties, in accordance with the developed advanced training programs, classes are conducted with pediatricians and nurses of educational organizations, and adolescent doctors. This is due to the fact that this category of medical workers in their work often has to solve problems related to the hygiene and protection of the health of children and adolescents. Pediatricians of the departments of medical care for students should almost fully possess knowledge and skills in the field of hygiene of children and adolescents. Nowadays, the training of educational managers and teachers is becoming relevant. With its high potential, the Department of Hygiene of Children and Adolescents offers the level of knowledge and technology that meets the highest standards.
The department works on the basis of the Scientific Research Institute of Hygiene and Health Protection of Children and Adolescents of the Federal State Institution “The Children’s Health Information Center” of the Ministry of Health of Russia, which makes it possible to use the potential of the institute in the educational and scientific work of the department (library of scientific literature and information and methodological documents, research laboratories, testing centers children’s products, publishing products. The basic institution of the department is the educational center “Samson”.
