Department of Internal Medicine Propaedeutics of the Medical Faculty of the First Moscow State Medical University IM Sechenov, one of the oldest departments of Russia, was founded in 1864. Over the years of its existence, many well-known clinicians and scientists worked at the department and headed it. Such as G.A. Zakharyin, M.P. Cherinov, E.E. Fromgold, G.F. Lang, V.H. Vasilenko et al. Currently, the department is headed by the clinician V.T. Ivashkin. Under his leadership, there are 28 teachers: 13 professors, 9 assistant professors, 6 assistants. The composition of the department is represented by highly qualified personnel. The head of the department is an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences; among the staff of the department, 40% are MDs, 50% are Ph.D. The teaching of semiotics, classical and modern methods of diagnostics puts the propaedeutics of internal diseases into a number of leading basic disciplines, laying the foundation for further study not only of therapy, but also of other clinical disciplines. In addition, students study at the department “general care for therapeutic patients,” which is an integral part of the treatment of patients. The department trains students of 2 and 3 courses of medical faculty. The same subjects are studied at the department by foreign students of the department with partial teaching in English. Also at the department of propaedeutics are students of 2, 3 and 4 courses of the Faculty of Dentistry, who study here not only the propaedeutics of internal diseases, but also the whole course of “Internal diseases” and “General physiotherapy”. Employees of the department are involved in conducting summer internship with students of 2 and 3 courses. An important part of the work of the department is postgraduate education, including training of interns, clinical interns, graduate students. Active work is underway to prepare scientific and pedagogical personnel. At the department doctoral and doctoral dissertations are done by postgraduate and doctoral students of full-time and part-time forms of education, as well as applicants. Currently, the clinic has 6 specialized departments – the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, diseases of the intestine and pancreas, pulmonology, cardiology and the Department of Intensive Therapy and Reanimation. The newest equipment meeting all modern requirements is equipped with ultrasonic and X-ray diagnostic departments, a room for functional diagnostics of diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems; Cabinet pH-metry, Cabinet puncture biopsy of the liver.
