The Department of Life Safety and Disaster Medicine is the successor of the Department of Civil Defense of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov.

The department belongs to the main educational and scientific structural subdivisions of the medical faculty.

The head of the department is MD, Professor, Chizh Ivan Mikhailovich, State Prize Laureate of the Russian Federation, Government Prize of the Russian Federation, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Educational Work, retired Colonel General.

Teaching the discipline “Life Safety, Disaster Medicine” is carried out at the faculties (including students of English-speaking departments): medical, preventive, dental, pediatric, pharmaceutical, higher nursing education, and according to the program of the Center for Innovative Educational Programs “Medicine of the Future.”

Our university has been teaching the discipline “Life Safety, Disaster Medicine” since 2011.

The overall ultimate goal of education in the field of life safety and disaster medicine is primarily the formation of a person’s worldview and culture of safe life, the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to ensure a comfortable and safe life and to maintain the acceptable quality of the environment.

The purpose of this academic discipline is to form the conceptual, theoretical and methodological apparatus necessary for mastering other disciplines that study harmful and dangerous environmental factors, methods and means of protection from them, methods of assistance, treatment and rehabilitation of the effects of their effects on the human body. It contains the foundations for the protection of the individual, society, the state and humanity as a whole, thus providing a general education in the field of security, is the scientific and methodological foundation for all special medical disciplines without exception.

The result of the comprehensive training of students is the arming of the future specialist with the knowledge, skills and abilities of a safe professional activity. At the same time, the physician must professionally maintain vital conditions and be able to act in emergency situations.

Priorities in the activities of the department are: improving the educational process, the preparation of highly qualified teaching staff. The publication of textbooks, teaching aids, teaching materials, test items, situational tasks for students of medical universities is also included in the list of priority areas of the department’s activities.

The Department of Life Safety and Disaster Medicine currently employs 9 professors, 8 associate professors, 8 senior lecturers. The department is actively working student scientific circle.
