The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Medical Faculty No. 2 was founded in 1964. Since 1981, the department was headed by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Professor Emeritus of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov Strizhakov Alexander Nikolaevich. Taking into account the great contribution of the department to the development of the perinatal aspects of obstetrics and the perinatal protection of the fetus, in 2010 the department was renamed the department of “obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology”.

The clinical bases of the department are the maternity hospital at the SKH named after S.S. Yudin on 220 beds, gynecological department GKB named after S.S. Yudin on 60 beds and gynecological department of the clinic “Family” (branch on the square Ilyicha)

Currently, the department has 9 professors, 7 associate professors, 6 assistants. Every year, more than 900 students of 4.5 and 6 courses, 50 clinical interns and interns, doctoral students, graduate students and applicants undergo training and advanced training at the department. Classes with students are conducted in accordance with the work program of study. Subjects of practical classes, lectures, working off missed classes, exam consultations, the date of the exam is located on the stands of the department at all bases and is available to students. Electives are conducted on topical issues of obstetrics, gynecology and perinatology.

At the clinical bases of the department, more than 9,000 pregnant and 8,000 patients are treated annually, about 7,000 births are performed, and more than 5,000 surgeries are performed.
