Dear colleagues, we are pleased to announce the merger of the two strongest departments of the Institute of Vocational Education at Sechenov University: the Department of Plastic Surgery (Head of the Department, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Igor Reshetov) and the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy (Head of the Department of Academician of the Russian Academy V. Chissov).
The department was named the “Department of Oncology, Radiotherapy and Plastic Surgery of the Medical Faculty”.
The new scientific and pedagogical association was headed by Igor Vladimirovich Reshetov – one of the strongest scientists and a brilliant surgeon in the field of oncology and reconstructive plastic surgery.
Considering that the main directions of both departments were postgraduate education of specialists, merging the areas of oncology and reconstructive plastic medicine means expanding the possibilities for conducting certification cycles, advanced training cycles and primary retraining, as well as training in clinical residency programs.
The presence of specialists located at the junction of two specialties as part of the faculty gives our students a unique chance to master not only aesthetic surgery or clinical oncology in its pure form, but also to learn an integrated approach in treating patients, from tumor removal to reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Areas of educational activity are presented in the “Educational activities” section, as well as the “Training and Production Plan for 2019”. All educational activities are carried out both on a budgetary basis and in cash.
The active young staff, competent leadership and opportunities of the University allowed the maximum unlock the potential of all areas of scientific and educational activities, which the department is engaged in.
Another principle for the formation of the faculty is the involvement of specific specialists for the teaching of specific issues of both experimental and clinical oncology. To give the teaching volume and practical importance of the issues being taught, the department uses several clinical bases. This and the Federal State Budgetary Institution “NMITS Radiology” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation with its affiliates Moscow Research Institute of Oncology. P.A. Herzen and Medical Radiological Scientific Center. A.F. Tsyba in Obninsk and the Oncology Center of PET Technology in Podolsk for oncologists and the Department of Aesthetic Surgery at the Family Clinic, as well as the Department of Microsurgery at the Clinical Hospital №29 for plastic surgeons.
The main base of the department is located in the heart of Sechenovsky University, on the Devichye Pole, at the University Clinical Hospital No. 1.
The department actively conducts scientific activities, employees speak at Russian and international symposia as speakers. Therapeutic work is carried out in the main areas of oncology and plastic surgery – head and neck tumors, mammary glands, skin, reconstructive surgeries (urology, traumatology), aesthetic operations on various parts of the body, maxillofacial surgery.
For some time, the department also took up the education of students. We run cycles in oncology for students of the 7th course of the medical faculty, the pride of our university – the Faculty of Medicine of the Future (6th year), as well as the cycle “Oncology of the maxillofacial region” for dental students. Comprehensive training and extensive clinical experience of the department staff allows students of the medical faculty to conduct classes in the course of hospital surgery.
