The Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy of the Medical Faculty is one of the oldest departments of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov. The department has a rich historical experience in the organization of educational and professional activities of students, which is an integral part of the training and education of the modern doctor. The department is a multi-year organizer of the Moscow (All-Russian) Student Surgical Olympiad. Academician M.I. Perelman with international participation.

Today, the department employs leading scientists and highly qualified teachers who are able to provide a high level of basic and professional training of students at the level of world requirements.

The priority activity of the Department is the experimental development and topographic-anatomical substantiation of new surgical technologies. Significant advances in research have been achieved.
The department trains students of 3-4 courses of medical and pediatric faculties on the subject of Topographic Anatomy and Operative Surgery and 2nd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry on the subject of Topographic Anatomy of the Head and Neck.
