Consistently this department was headed by professors: V.D. Shervinsky, K.M. Pavlinov, N.A. Mitropolsky, D.M. Russian.

In 1955, with the introduction of the subordinate, the department was closed and all the departments of internal diseases of the 1st MMI carried out the teaching of therapy in the polyclinic (at present, the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow Medical University). Such a system of education has not justified itself, because did not contribute to the full-fledged training of a leading health care physician – polyclinic.

In 1980, an independent course of polyclinic therapy was organized in the 1st MMU, and in 1984 a department with the same name was organized. It was headed by Professor V.A. Galkin.

After merging with the Department of General Practice, Professor V.A. Galkin continued to lead the course of polyclinic therapy.

In 2010, in connection with the change in the strategy of training doctors and the transfer of the center of gravity from the hospital to the outpatient unit of practical public health, the Department of Polyclinic Therapy was reopened, which since 2011 was headed by Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation Professor M.A. Osadchuk
